Material Experimentation Project
Thirty-two Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) have been agreed upon by Australian governments. These weeds have been identified based their invasiveness, potential for spread and environmental, social and economic impacts.
African Lovegrass was thought to have entered Australia prior to 1900 via sailing ships re-stuffing mattresses in Africa en route to the colony. Thriving in our dry landscape, it outcompetes native grasses and has shifted our native species habitat.
Through collaboration with a range of botanists, Landcare volunteers and National Parks field officers, my work explores Lovegrass’ potential as a new material, while the outcome visually characterises it’s impact and history.
